Ford is recalling more than 310,000 trucks in the U.S. due to the driver’s front airbag, which may not inflate in a crash.

The recall covers certain F-Series pickups. Such as: F-250, F-350, F-450, and F-550 super duty trucks from the 2016 model year.

The problem:

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, dust can accumulate in a cable inside the steering wheel, interrupting the electrical connection. Drivers may notice a popping or clicking sound coming from inside the steering wheel. Or the steering wheel may switch, or the horn might not work properly.

However, the company is currently unaware of any crashes or fatalities caused by the issue.

The Fix:

Dealers will replace the steering wheel wiring assembly at no cost to owners starting July 5, 2023.

Ford’s Critical Concern Review Group (CCRG) was made aware of a Super Duty pickup truck warranty repair in October 2021. This occurrence matched a report the NHTSA has been questioning since July 2021.

Ford eventually discovered 11,200 reports of trucks from the 2016 model year exhibiting the same symptoms. Similar symptoms include the airbag warning bulb illuminating between July 20, 2015, and December 10, 2021.
