Former Tesla and Lyft executive Jon McNeill is joining the board of directors at General Motors. In a press release, the automaker touted McNeill’s credentials as an entrepreneur and venture capital investor.

“Jon’s passion for customers and track record driving growth in the transportation sector will be a tremendous asset to GM as we accelerate toward an all-electric future,” GM Chair and CEO Mary Barra said in the release. “His experience driving constructive disruption to grow businesses and his commitment to making a positive impact on society will be invaluable as we reimagine how our customers and communities move through the world.”

McNeill is the co-founder and CEO of DVx Ventures, “a venture firm focused on creating and scaling breakthrough businesses that will have a positive impact on the world.” He also created and sold several successful technology and retail companies, including Midwest Cycling and Sterling Collision Centers.

Prior to that, McNeill served as Chief Operating Officer for ride-sharing company Lyft and president of global sales, delivery, and service at Tesla. McNeill will become one of 13 directors on the board at General Motors and, according to GM spokeswoman Colleen Oberc, is not replacing any current board members.

In the release, McNeill said he is “excited to help GM unlock the opportunities enabled by its transformative investments in technology.”

“GM is rapidly changing to meet the world’s need for cleaner and safer transportation and they’re uncovering new growth opportunities with every hardware and software innovation they’re introducing.”
