BMW reveals upcoming i7 electric sedan

Image by BMW of North America

BMW revealed its upcoming electric i7 sedan on Wednesday, the third fully-electric car in its lineup. The automaker referred to the new vehicle as a “fully integrated member of the 7 Series line,” and the vehicle’s base price expects to start at $119,300. BMW is working diligently to catch up with Tesla in the EV industry, and the vehicle joins its all-electric i4 midsize sedan and the iX crossover.

The vehicle will come with an attractive interior and upgraded technology, including various screens throughout the car. This includes the 31.3-inch touchscreen “BMW Theater Screen,” developed with Amazon Fire TV. There will also be the so-called “BMW Interaction Bar,” a 12.3-inch screen in front of the driver and a 14.9-inch screen in the middle. The exterior will reportedly look “sleeker” than previous BMW vehicles.

The base model i7 comes with two motors that reportedly offer up to 549 pound-foot of torque and 536 horsepower. The vehicle is also expected to go from 0 to 60 miles per hour in just four and a half seconds and is projected to get around 300 miles of range on a full charge.

Other 7-Series vehicles vary in price, with the V-6 engine 740i starting at $93,300 and the V-8 engine 760i starting at $113,600. BMW plans to make the new i7 sedan available in the U.S. by the end of the year.
