The highly anticipated 2026 Honda Prelude made its North American debut this week, marking the return of the iconic sports coupe as a hybrid-electric model. The new Prelude combines Honda’s award-winning two-motor hybrid system with the high-performance chassis hardware of the Civic Type R, delivering responsive handling, precise steering, and an engaging driving experience. The vehicle will arrive at U.S. dealerships nationwide in late fall.

Powered by a 2.0-liter Atkinson cycle gasoline engine and two electric motors, the Prelude produces a combined 200 horsepower and 232 lb.-ft. of torque, offering quick acceleration and smooth performance. The coupe introduces Honda’s innovative S+ Shift system, which simulates a performance transmission with rev-matched downshifts and enhanced engine sounds. Four selectable drive modes:

  1. Comfort
  2. GT
  3. Sport
  4. Individual

Each drive mode allows drivers to customize steering, suspension, and throttle response for varied conditions.

The Prelude features high-performance Civic Type R chassis hardware, including a dual-axis strut front suspension, adaptive dampers, and Brembo four-piston aluminum front calipers. Large 19-inch Berlina Black wheels and high-performance tires enhance grip and handling. Honda’s Agile Handling Assist and advanced braking system work together to maintain control and driver confidence.

Inside, the Prelude combines luxury and technology. The cockpit includes a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster, a 9-inch HD touchscreen with Google built in, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, WiFi hotspot, and a Bose Centerpoint 8-speaker audio system. Seats are leather-trimmed with heating and unique houndstooth patterns, offering comfort for both driver and passenger. The 2+2 seating layout includes a fold-down rear seat for additional cargo space.

Safety is comprehensive, with the Honda Sensing suite, Post-Collision Braking, advanced airbags, and Honda’s ACE front body structure standard on all models.

Honda plans to leverage the Prelude to expand hybrid-electric adoption across its lineup. Hybrid models currently account for roughly one-third of Honda sales, and the company expects hybrids to represent over 60% of total auto sales in the coming years. The 2026 Prelude combines performance, style, and daily usability, reintroducing the legendary nameplate for a new generation of drivers.
