Ford is issuing another wave of recalls, impacting more than 550,000 U.S. vehicles due to airbag malfunctions and structural issues that could increase the risk of collisions and injuries. The two separate recalls cover 2025 Ford Mavericks as well as 2016 and 2017 Ford Explorers.
Ford reported the two separate issues to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) on May 27.
The first recall affects 63,898 2025 Maverick pickups. The impacted vehicles may have an airbag indicator light that becomes loose or dislodged. This defect makes it difficult for the driver to determine whether the passenger-side airbag is on or off, increasing the risk of occupant injury or fatality in the event of a collision. Owners may bring their impacted vehicle to their nearest Ford dealership for a free installation of new airbag indicator light retaining clips. The recall number is 25C17.
The second recall covers 492,142 Explorers from model years 2016 and 2017. The issue involves the B-pillar door trim, which separates the front and backseat windows. The trim may detach while the vehicle is in motion, creating the potential for roadway debris that poses a hazard to other drivers and vehicles. Currently, Ford is exploring potential solutions for the issue. The recall number is 25S53.
Ford plans to mail notification letters to owners for both recalls on June 9. When a solution is finalized for the Explorer recall, the automaker will issue a second follow-up letter.
