  • Boston Dynamics opened a new Atlas robot training center at Hyundai’s Georgia EV plant
  • Hyundai plans to deploy 25,000 Atlas units at Hyundai and Kia plants globally
  • A facility roughly 10 times larger is planned for 2027, with a new US robot factory

On September 21, Boston Dynamics announced it opened a new training center for its Atlas humanoid robots inside Hyundai Motor Group‘s Metaplant America campus outside Savannah, Georgia.

The Robotics Metaplant Application Center (RMAC) will serve as a testbed for integrating Atlas robots directly into Hyundai’s vehicle manufacturing operations. The robots are training in real-world conditions, starting with logistics work and sequencing automotive parts before they’re placed in the correct order for assembly.

By 2030, Boston Dynamics plans to expand Atlas’ role into component assembly. Over time, the robots will also take on repetitive motions and strenuous work like lifting heavy loads, according to the company.

Hyundai Motor Group plans to move quickly on deployment, starting with 25,000 Atlas units across Hyundai Motor and Kia‘s global plants over the next few years. The Group also plans to build a new production facility in the U.S. capable of manufacturing 30,000 robots annually.

“Together with Hyundai Motor Group, we are pioneering physical AI at enterprise scale,” Zack Jackowski, Chief Product and Technology Officer at Boston Dynamics, said in a statement released by the company.

The RMAC’s current phase is already operational at the Metaplant, but Boston Dynamics isn’t stopping there. Next year, the company plans to move RMAC operations into a new building roughly 10 times its current size. The company also plans to look beyond automotive applications for Atlas, and is already in talks with several existing Spot and Stretch customers in manufacturing, aerospace, semiconductors, logistics, food and beverage, and life sciences about scaling data collection to continue training Atlas through 2027.

The RMAC launch follows Boston Dynamics’ unveiling of Atlas during Hyundai Motor Group’s media day presentation at CES 2026, where the Group first laid out its broader AI robotics strategy.
