Entegra Coach Embark: The hybrid motorhome bringing EV tech to RVs

What happens when you combine an electric motorhome with the freedom of gasoline? Entegra Coach believes the answer is the Embark, a range-extended electric Class A motorhome designed to deliver EV driving without the range anxiety that can come with a battery-only RV.

I spoke with Mitch Johnson, Head of Fleet and Electric for the Jayco Family of Companies, which includes Entegra Coach, about the technology behind the Embark.

Built on an electric medium-duty chassis developed by Harbinger Motors for the THOR family of companies, the Embark uses a 140-kWh battery mounted low and in the center of the chassis. That placement helps lower the center of gravity, while the electric drivetrain delivers instant torque, reduced sway and a quieter, smoother ride.

The Embark can travel up to 105 miles on battery power alone. For longer trips, an integrated gasoline-powered range extender recharges the battery system, giving the motorhome up to 450 miles of total real-world range.

That approach is particularly interesting for an RV. Unlike a commuter vehicle, a motorhome can spend days traveling long distances or operating far from charging infrastructure. The range extender gives drivers another option when a DC fast charger isn’t available.

The Embark uses an 800-volt electrical architecture for DC fast charging, but it can also charge at home or at traditional RV campsites. The onboard range extender provides another way to keep the battery system supplied.

There is also a practical benefit when the motorhome is parked. The Embark can serve as a mobile backup power source, potentially providing electricity to a home or other essential systems during a power outage.

Safety technology includes a backup camera with dynamic trajectory, front and rear ultrasonic collision warnings and real-time tire-pressure monitoring.

Entegra Coach is taking a real-world approach to launching the Embark. Consumers will be able to rent one through THL in 2026, allowing the company to gather feedback and make improvements based on actual RV use.

The Embark is an important experiment for the RV industry. Rather than forcing large motorhomes into an all-electric future before the infrastructure is ready, Entegra Coach is combining electric propulsion with gasoline range extension.

With production beginning in 2026, the Embark could offer a glimpse at where RV technology is headed, and whether electrification can deliver the efficiency and driving benefits of an EV without giving up the freedom that makes RV travel appealing.
