Lexus is finally entering the three-row all-electric SUV market, and the new 2027 Lexus TZ is designed to make a statement. During our interview with Alex Man from Lexus Marketing, Karl Brauer and I discussed how the brand is blending luxury, technology, and electrification into what could become one of the most important vehicles in Lexus history.
The all-new Lexus TZ will be the brand’s first-ever three-row battery-electric SUV, giving families and luxury buyers a premium EV alternative with the comfort and craftsmanship Lexus customers expect. Built from the “Driving Lounge” concept philosophy, the TZ focuses heavily on passenger comfort, quietness, and refinement while still delivering the dynamic driving character Lexus buyers demand.
One of the biggest headlines is range. Lexus says select TZ grades are expected to deliver a manufacturer-estimated driving range of approximately 300 miles. That puts the TZ directly into competition with luxury EVs from Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Cadillac, and Volvo, while offering the practicality of a true three-row layout.
Unlike some competitors that prioritize futuristic styling over usability, Lexus appears focused on making the TZ comfortable for every passenger. Alex Mann explained that the interior was designed to create a relaxing environment for all three rows, not just the driver and front passenger. An expansive panoramic roof stretches across the cabin with scenic visibility for first, second, and third-row passengers. The roof also features a power sunshade, allowing occupants to adjust cabin brightness and comfort depending on conditions.
Luxury details remain central to the Lexus identity, even in the brand’s electric future. Sustainable craftsmanship plays a major role inside the TZ, including forged bamboo interior surfaces that create a high-end bespoke appearance while supporting Lexus’ sustainability goals. The design balances modern EV aesthetics with traditional Lexus craftsmanship, something many luxury buyers still value.
Passenger comfort also receives significant attention. Available front passenger and second-row seats offer ventilation and power ottomans, reinforcing the “Driving Lounge” concept Lexus continues to emphasize. In a segment where long-distance comfort matters, especially for families and executives, those details could help separate the TZ from rivals.
Performance was another key focus during our conversation. Every Lexus TZ model will come standard with DIRECT4 all-wheel drive, Lexus’ intelligent torque distribution system designed to improve stability, traction, and responsiveness. Lexus says the system continuously adjusts power delivery between the front and rear axles to maximize both efficiency and driver confidence.
The available Dynamic Rear Steering system also adds another layer of sophistication. Rear-wheel steering can improve low-speed maneuverability while enhancing stability at highway speeds, helping reduce body sway and making a large three-row SUV feel more agile behind the wheel. Lexus clearly understands that luxury buyers still want engaging driving dynamics, even in a fully electric family SUV.
Technology inside the TZ reflects Lexus’ latest-generation multimedia interface and connected vehicle systems. The SUV will also come equipped with Lexus Safety System+ 4.0, the newest version of the company’s active safety and driver assistance suite. As vehicles become increasingly software-driven, Lexus is pushing to combine advanced technology with the reliability reputation the brand has built over decades.
During our interview, Alex Mann emphasized that the TZ represents more than simply adding another EV to the lineup. It signals Lexus’ broader commitment to offering multiple electrified solutions while maintaining the comfort, craftsmanship, and refinement customers associate with the brand.
The 2027 Lexus TZ is expected to arrive in dealerships at the end of 2026. With strong range estimates, standard all-wheel drive, advanced luxury features, and a true three-row layout.
