On April 20, Samsung SDI signed a multi-year agreement with Mercedes-Benz to supply EV batteries, marking Samsung SDI’s first EV battery supply agreement with the German automaker.

Although the financial terms and total volume of the agreement were not disclosed.

Under the agreement, Samsung SDI will supply batteries featuring high-nickel NCM (nickel, cobalt and manganese) chemistry. The batteries will power Mercedes-Benz’s next generation of EVs, supporting the company’s ongoing electrification strategy.

Mercedes-Benz plans to use the batteries in future compact and mid-size electric SUVs and coupe models, according to Samsung SDI.

The companies did not disclose a timeline for deployment or production ramp-up.

The agreement reflects ongoing efforts by global automakers to secure long-term battery supply as competition intensifies in the EV market. Demand for high-performance battery chemistry continues to shape partnerships between automakers and battery manufacturers.
