UAW secures union win at Webasto Detroit after 2.5-year push

Employees cite workplace concerns as organizing effort culminates in successful union election at Ford Bronco supplier plant.

UAW secures union win at Webasto Detroit after 2.5-year push

On the Dash:

  • A 276–133 vote formalizes UAW representation at a key Ford Bronco supplier following a 2.5-year organizing effort.
  • Ongoing labor activity in the supplier network signals potential cost and production ripple effects for automakers and dealers.
  • Union expansion beyond assembly plants underscores the growing focus on supply chain labor conditions and compensation gaps.

Workers at Webasto Detroit voted 276–133 in a National Labor Relations Board election to unionize with the United Auto Workers, marking the culmination of a 2.5-year organizing effort at the facility that produces hard top roofs, primarily for the Ford Bronco.

The vote follows more than two years of organizing driven by employee concerns about favoritism, management bullying, overwork, and scheduling issues.

The outcome reflects a broader push among auto supply workers seeking union representation, as employees in the supply chain continue to pursue improved wages, benefits, and workplace protections compared with their counterparts in assembly plants. Workers in these roles often face hazardous conditions, including exposure to chemicals without proper precautions.

With the election result finalized, Webasto Detroit employees will now move toward collective bargaining as part of the UAW. The group joins workers at Webasto Pilot Road, who unionized with the UAW in 2023 and ratified their first contract in 2024.
