Ford powers into 2025 with record EV sales and a 6% retail boost

Ford's 6% increase in 2024 doubled the industry's growth rate.
Ford posts record EV sales and a 6% retail boost in 2024

Ford recently released its fourth quarter and yearly sales results. The automaker outpaced the broader industry’s growth rate, achieving double the pace in 2024. Retail sales surged 17% in Q4, leading to 6% growth for the entire year. This strong performance was driven by record EV sales, growth in the truck segment, and notable gains from the Lincoln brand.

Ford’s electric vehicle (EV) lineup, which includes hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and all-electric models, set a new record in 2024 with 285,291 units sold—a 38% increase from the previous year. Key contributors to this success include the Mustang Mach-E, which saw a 27% year-over-year increase to 51,745 units, the F-150 Lightning with a 39% gain at 33,510 units, and the E-Transit, which jumped 64% with 12,610 units sold.

The automaker’s fourth-quarter EV performance was especially strong due to its Power Promise program. The program, which offered customers a complimentary home charger, standard installation, and 24/7 customer support, helped boost Q4 sales to a record 30,176 electric vehicles. With these impressive figures, Ford solidified its position as a major player in the EV space.

In addition to its electric success, Ford saw strong growth in hybrid vehicle sales in 2024. The total number of hybrid vehicles sold reached 187,426, a significant 40% increase over 2023.

Leading the charge was the F-150 Hybrid, which saw an impressive 47% increase in sales, totaling 73,845 units. Meanwhile, the Maverick Hybrid saw a 31% rise, selling 68,752 units in 2024.

Additionally, Ford’s truck segment continued to be a cornerstone of its sales success. The F-Series, which remains America’s best-selling truck for the 48th straight year, saw a 21% increase in Q4 sales.

Meanwhile, Lincoln, Ford’s luxury brand, also experienced a stellar year, with sales up 28% to 104,823 units—the brand’s best annual performance in 17 years. The success of models like the Nautilus and Aviator were key contributors to this achievement.

With these strong sales results, Ford’s strategy of offering a broad range of powertrain options and focusing on electrification continues to pay off. The automaker is well-positioned to maintain its momentum as it heads into 2025.
