Volvo recalls all new EX30 electric SUVs over display software bug

This recall follows a similar issue last year when Volvo delayed the launch of its EX90 flagship electric SUV.
Volvo Car has recalled all of its newly launched fully-electric EX30 sports utility vehicles due to a bug in the display software.

Volvo Car has recalled all of its newly launched fully-electric EX30 sports utility vehicles due to a bug in the display software. The Swedish automaker, which began delivering the EX30 in late 2023, is now recalling nearly 72,000 vehicles produced.

This recall follows a similar issue last year when Volvo delayed the launch of its EX90 flagship electric SUV to mid-2024 due to software bugs. The company’s increasing integration of advanced technology into its vehicles has led to these software challenges.

On Monday, Volvo stated that internal investigations had identified a potential issue with EX30 cars. This issue can cause the center display screen to show a test screen instead of the intended driver information and infotainment. The company emphasized that the issue will be resolved through an over-the-air software update and that no other Volvo models are affected. There have been no reports of related accidents or injuries.

Despite this setback, Volvo’s Chief Commercial Officer and Deputy Chief Executive, Bjorn Annwall, mentioned earlier this month that the EX30 has quickly become one of the best-selling fully-electric cars in Europe. The EX30 is set to launch in the U.S. later this summer.
