Stellantis forges partnership with CARB in ambitious sustainability drive

Stellantis announced that it has partnered with the California Air Resources Board (CARB) as part of its Dare Forward 2030 business strategy.

Stellantis recently announced that it has partnered with the California Air Resources Board (CARB) as part of its Dare Forward 2030 business strategy. This partnership indicates the company’s commitment to achieving industry-leading sustainability goals, precisely its aim to become carbon net zero by 2038.

As part of the agreement with CARB, Stellantis has pledged to intensify its efforts to promote the adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) in the United States. This includes educating American dealers and consumers about the benefits of EVs and working with Veloz, an organization dedicated to raising awareness of EVs. Stellantis will also donate an additional $10 million to install public EV chargers and provide subsidized EVs to groups in underserved areas.

Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares expressed optimism about this partnership, stating that it will curb 10 to 12 million metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions while providing U.S. customers access to advanced technologies, including five plug-in hybrids and two electric vehicles. California Governor Gavin Newsom praised the partnership for helping the state achieve its pollution reduction goals and promoting clean vehicle adoption. CARB officials emphasized the importance of industry collaboration in accelerating zero-emissions options and advancing a sustainable future.

Currently, Stellantis sells five plug-in hybrids in the United States, including the Jeep Wrangler 4xe, Grand Cherokee 4xe, Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid, Dodge Hornet, and Alfa Romeo Tonale. It also offers two fully electric cars: the Ram ProMaster EV and the FIAT 500e. The company plans to launch eight new battery electric vehicle (BEV) models in the U.S. this year, which is part of its goal to offer 48 BEV nameplates worldwide by the end of 2024.
