According to Stellantis, the manufacturer of Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Ram, and other vehicles, it saw a 1% year-over-year decline in its U.S. third quarter sales.

Following the second quarter, when the automaker reported its first uptick in U.S. sales in two years, the third quarter saw another decline in Stellantis’ biggest market.

The United Auto Workers strike against the transatlantic automaker and its crosstown rivals has had little effect on sales thus far because Stellantis has some of the highest amounts of inventory. However, the UAW is on strike at the Jeep Wrangler and Gladiator plants in Toledo, Ohio, and Stellantis’ Mopar parts distribution locations nationwide.

In the July to August period, Stellantis sold 380,563 automobiles. Deliveries have since been down 1% to date. Compared to the same quarter last year, the Chrysler brand saw a 96% increase in sales, which enabled the carmaker to win the triple crown for the top-three selling plug-in hybrids in the nation.

U.S. Head of Sales Jeff Kommor stated, “We’ve gained traction during the summer, and we’re starting to see some momentum at the close of this third quarter.”

Furthermore, Jeep sales fell 4%, delivery of the Wrangler SUV decreased by 12%, and the Gladiator midsize pickup’s sales were down 34%, but a revamped model is anticipated to be on sale before the year’s end. However, UAW workers at the factory that makes off-road vehicles have been on strike.

According to the company, which cited S&P Global data:
  • The 4xe plug-in hybrid variants were the No.1 and No.2 best-selling PHEVs in the United States. Following, the Chrysler Pacifica at No.3.
  • The Wrangler recorded its best quarter to date thanks to the 4xe plug-in hybrid versions, which accounted for 42% of sales.
  • Sales of the Grand Cherokee rose by 52%.
  • Compass sales, however, decreased 2%.
  • Sales of the Grand Wagoneer increased by 22%,
  • While those of the Wagoneer fell by 44%.

Furthermore, this quarter saw the brand-new 2024 Dodge Hornet debut, which sold 1,753 units. The all-new 2024 Alfa Romeo Tonale, a brand-new vehicle for Alfa Romeo, sold 746 units during the quarter.
