Chrysler recalls roughly 45,000 vehicles due to interior interference with airbags

Officials claimed Chrysler is recalling almost 45,000 vehicles due to the prevention of airbag deployment.
Chrysler recall

Driven: 2023 Jeep Grand Wagoneer L

Officials claimed Chrysler is recalling almost 45,000 vehicles because the upper B-pillar inside trim may not be seated entirely, which could prevent airbag deployment.

According to the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, NHTSA, the Chrysler recall affects 44,708 Jeep Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer cars from 2022 to 2023.

The NHTSA said, “In the case of a crash, a compromised deployment of the airbag (SABIC) can reduce occupant protection, which will increase the risk of injury. As a result, these vehicles do not meet the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 226, ‘Ejection Mitigation.” Moreover, the “Ejection Mitigation” rule establishes a standard that reduces vehicle occupants’ partial or complete ejection through side windows in crashes. The standard applies to the side windows next to the first three rows of seats, and a portion of the cargo area behind the first or second rows, in motor vehicles with a gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of 4,536 kilograms (kg) or less (10,000 pounds (lb) or less). The ejection mitigation safety device must prohibit the impactor from traveling more than a set distance beyond the plane of a window.

Solution

Chrysler will mail notification letters to owners by the end of September. Then, customers will be able to bring their vehicles to any Chrysler dealerships for a free inspection, during which time the trim pieces will be reseated or replaced as necessary,

For the most recent recalls, owners can search the NHTSA or the USA TODAY automotive recall database. Furthermore, owners can search for recalls using their vehicle identifying number or VIN on the NHTSA website

Owners may contact FCA US, LLC customer service at 1-800-853-1403. FCA US, LLC’s number for this recall is 76A.
