Property in and around Davison, Michigan, near Flint, has been severely destroyed by a string of intense hailstorms. Tennis ball-sized hail from the unexpected hailstorm destroyed local cars and damaged homes. Local dealerships stated that over 600 new vehicles were damaged, and the local police force is down to only two operational patrol vehicles.

Both Todd Wenzel Buick GMC and Hank Graff Chevrolet reported significant damage to every new vehicle they had outdoors during the storm. Hundreds of brand-new cars substantially damaged every exposed panel, including cracked broad windows, dented hoods, dented roofs, and broken windshields. Some cars even had water damage due to hail smashing their windows and letting rainwater inside.

The dealership scene was devastating, cars looked like they’d been beaten with a bat. Windshields bore huge dents, and the metalwork of the vehicles showed signs of significant hail damage. While practically all cars sustained some dents, few avoided broken glass. The dealerships started covering the vehicles in plastic to protect them from the elements while being examined for repairs. According to Chris Graff, the owner of Graff Chevrolet, a scratch and dent sale can offer buyers some fantastic prices. While insurance will cover most auto repairs, it’s unclear if it covers value loss.

The local police department was also impacted, with only two working patrol cars to respond to calls. The remaining two Davison Township patrol cars merely received dings, but most of the fleet had broken windows that needed fixing before the vehicles could be put back into service.

Nevertheless, the severe hail storm inflicted a substantial amount of damage. Fortunately, there currently haven’t been any reported injuries, although it appears several brand-new vehicles are the lone casualties.
