Chevy expands range of Silverado EV electric work truck to 450 miles

The increase in range is far more than rivals like Ford and Rivian.
Silverado EV

General Motors revealed that the Chevrolet Silverado EV Work Truck (WT) pickup will have 450 miles of range on a single charge, which is significantly higher than expected and is still planned for this spring.

While GM is still behind its rival, Ford, regarding the electric market, it may be worth the wait.

To illustrate, when the automaker first announced the Silverado EV in 2022, GM said it estimated the top range to be roughly 400 miles available for the first Silverado EV WT and its fleets. But today, GM has updated the Truck’s range with an EPA estimate of 450 miles.

The increase in range is far more than the Ford Lightening’s 320 miles of range. Ford’s range includes an Extended Battery pack and 328 miles for the RIvian R1T with the highest range configuration.

GM expresses, “Our engineering team had long aimed for a range of at least 400 miles, but they were able to go much further to achieve this boost. Development and testing have been ongoing to unlock the improved 450-mile range for several months.” The automaker additionally believes it remains on track to launch in the spring of 2023.

The first model is anticipated to have 510 horsepower, 615 lb-ft of torque, a 1,200-pound payload capacity, and an 8,000-pound towing capacity. The towing capacity is limited, but according to GM, a Max Towing Package will increase to 20,000 lb in 2025.

The range expansion leads GM in the rapidly growing electric pickup market and upsets the electric pickup space.
