This week, General Motors revealed an updated version of its entry-level crossover, the Chevrolet Trax. This revamped crossover includes both new technologies and designs with a lower price tag than the current version.

GM executives have called the Chevrolet Trax a “gateway vehicle” for consumers to move into the brand’s larger and pricier crossovers and SUVs. The low price point makes the Trax an enticing offering from GM, especially amid rising interest rates and historically high prices.

“This is a great opportunity for us with folks at the low end of the market,” said Chevrolet Vice President Scott Bell during a media briefing. “This is a vehicle that, we quote, ‘Has everything you need and nothing you don’t.'”

The 2024 Chevrolet Trax will have a starting price of $21,495 for an LT trim, a $1,400 drop from current pricing. The highest starting trim price will be $24,995. The only offering from Chevrolet with a lower price point is the Spark hatchback, a much smaller vehicle that starts at under $15,000.

The upcoming version of the Chevrolet Trax will feature a 1.2-liter turbocharged, three-cylinder engine with an estimated 137 horsepower and 162 pound-foot of torque. Larger control and information screens, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, active noise cancellation, automatic emergency braking, blind zone monitoring, and adaptive cruise control will be offered as either standard or optional add-ons.

As for the updated design, GM went with styling that mirrors the 2019 Chevrolet Blazer and Trailblazer. Chevrolet expects the vehicle to become the third best-selling vehicle in the brand’s lineup.
