Honda US sales slide 38% in August, supply of vehicles remains low

Honda sales

American Honda reported that US sales dropped by 38% year-over-year in the month of August, as the company continued to struggle with supply shortages and low inventory levels. Honda reported 71,461 sales in August.

The company reported deliveries at the Honda division were down 36% in August, while Acura deliveries dropped by 47%. That makes 13 straight months of decline for the Honda brand and 12 months of consecutive drops for Acura.

Honda has faced low inventory levels made worse by a west coast rail embargo. The company has a days’ supply of vehicles that remains in the single digits.

The good news comes from Honda’s light truck models. Ridgeline reported its second-best August of all time, while Pilot and Passport also had strong sales for the month. The Accord Hybrid also posted positive monthly sales numbers, with sales topping 3,000 units. That marks the model’s best-ever August results.

The brand-new Acura Integra hit 1,500 units, making August the best month since the vehicle launched. However, the MDX is still the top seller for the Acura brand, with sales of over 3,000 units in August.
