General Motors has partnered with Pilot, an American petroleum corporation, and BEV charging company EVgo to produce a large network of fast EV charging stations along the highway system throughout the United States.
Late last week, Pilot announced they would install about 2,000 chargers in 500 locations within 50 miles of each other that will be ready to operate by the end of 2023. They will be designed to charge up to 350 kilowatts and accommodate electric vehicles towing trailers.
The agreement is part of a larger $750 million push by GM to develop an accessible fast-charging network as it prepares to introduce a number of new electric vehicles over the coming years and will largely benefit from U.S. government grants.
While Pilot and General Motors will own the chargers, the stations are designed for all EVs compatible with DC fast charging. The joint venture hopes to produce many high-power fast chargers that can charge up to 350 kilowatts. Pilot and General Motors also plan to install at least 3,250 fast chargers before 2026.
