Toyota adds rugged EV to lineup with 2026 bZ Woodland crossover

This adventure-focused midsize SUV joins Toyota's expanding bZ family with off-road performance and zero-emission appeal.

Toyota unveiled its new 2026 bZ Woodland, a new all-electric midsize SUV. This new model is Toyota’s third BEV and joins the refreshed bZ small SUV and new 2026 C-HR crossover. The vehicle is designed for adventure enthusiasts within the growing BEV segment and features off-roading capabilities and a rugged style.

“With zero emissions and a powerful drive, the bZ Woodland is bringing outdoor-inspired style to our BEV lineup,” said President of Toyota Group, Dave Christ. “This latest entry in our bZ line embraces the spirit of adventure with surprising capability, rugged style, and an all-electric powertrain that’s backed by Toyota.”

The 2026 bZ Woodland is equipped with standard all-wheel drive powered by dual eAxles and Toyota’s X-Mode technology to enhance control on off-road terrain. It delivers a robust 375 horsepower combined system output and boasts a towing capacity of up to 3,500 pounds, making it one of the more capable BEVs in its class. Additional off-road-ready features include 8.3 inches of ground clearance and durable all-terrain tires, offering drivers confidence across various conditions.

Toyota has yet to release full specifications on range or battery size. However, the company is positioning the bZ Woodland as a lifestyle vehicle for eco-conscious consumers who still demand capability and performance. Inside, the SUV is expected to reflect Toyota’s latest in connected services, driver-assistance technology, and sustainable interior materials. However, further interior details will be revealed closer to its production date.

The bZ Woodland reinforces Toyota’s continued investment in expanding its electric offerings. While the brand has been slower than some competitors to fully electrify, it has focused on integrating electrification in multiple forms, including hybrids, plug-in hybrids, and BEVs, aiming for flexibility across markets. The Woodland’s introduction signals a more adventurous pivot within Toyota’s zero-emission strategy, targeting consumers who want electric performance without sacrificing utility or outdoor readiness.

More details, including pricing and on-sale timing, will be announced later this year.
