Honda, Helm.ai sign multi-year deal to advance autonomous driving tech

The partnership targets ADAS development for consumer vehicles, with mass production expected after 2027.

Honda Motor Co. and Helm.ai have entered into a multi-year joint development agreement to accelerate next-generation driver assistance and self-driving technologies for consumer vehicles. The collaboration focuses on Honda’s Navigate on Autopilot (NOA) platform, with mass production targeted after 2027.

The partnership centers on the advancement of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) for mainstream production cars. Honda will integrate Helm.ai’s real-time AI software and large-scale simulation models into its end-to-end AI architecture, which powers perception, decision-making, and vehicle actuation for NOA. The system is designed as a partially automated technology that supports both highway and urban driving but still requires active driver supervision.

Helm.ai is contributing its full product suite to the effort, including its perception software (Helm.ai Vision), real-time path prediction AI (Helm.ai Driver), and generative simulation platforms (VidGen-2, GenSim-1, GenSim-2, and WorldGen-1). These systems, developed with Helm.ai’s proprietary Deep Teaching technology, are pre-trained on diverse multi-modal datasets and can be adapted to Honda’s safety and scalability requirements.

Honda’s roadmap for NOA includes scaling the technology across its vehicle lineup to provide a system that can assist with accelerator and steering inputs throughout an entire route, without distinguishing between city roads and highways. The automaker has identified the deployment of safe, reliable, and affordable autonomous driving technologies as a key objective in its long-term strategy.

The agreement marks a significant milestone in Honda’s push to expand its in-house capabilities for AI-powered mobility. Helm.ai’s contribution of real-time AI systems and foundation models is expected to accelerate development, testing, and validation, supporting Honda’s goal of achieving greater levels of autonomy in consumer vehicles.

Both companies see the joint project as a step toward enabling scalable, AI-driven transportation that enhances safety and driver convenience. By combining Honda’s global production capabilities with Helm.ai’s AI expertise, the partnership aims to position the automaker as a leader in mass-market autonomous driving solutions.
