Ford and Stellantis top J.D. Power 2024 vehicle appeal survey

The survey, based on responses from 99,144 owners of new 2024 model-year vehicles collected between July 2023 and May 2024.
According to the J.D. Power 2024 Study, the Ford F-Series Super Duty & Jeep Wagoneer emerged victors in their segments.

According to the J.D. Power 2024 U.S. Automotive Performance, Execution, and Layout Study, released Thursday, the Ford F-Series Super Duty, Jeep Wagoneer, and Alfa Romeo Giulia emerged as the most appealing vehicles in their segments. This annual survey evaluates new-vehicle owners’ assessments of design, performance, safety, usability, comfort, and perceived quality after 90 days of ownership.

Two Detroit-based automakers, Ford and Stellantis, secured top spots in this prestigious survey. Ford’s F-Series Super Duty won the award for large heavy-duty pickup, a recognition celebrated by Andrew Kernahan, Super Duty chief program engineer, who emphasized the value of feedback from everyday users.

Stellantis also saw victories with the Jeep Wagoneer and Alfa Romeo Giulia. The Wagoneer was named the most appealing large SUV, while the Giulia took the top spot for compact premium cars. Bill Kendell, Stellantis’ senior vice president of North American customer experience, highlighted the creativity ingrained in the company’s diverse vehicle range.

Moreover, Porsche achieved the highest position among premium brands in brand-level rankings, followed by Jaguar and Land Rover. Mini led the pack among mass-market brands, with Ram and Kia trailing closely behind. Hyundai excelled with the most model-level awards, securing seven, followed by BMW with four and Toyota with three.

The survey, based on responses from 99,144 owners of new 2024 model-year vehicles collected between July 2023 and May 2024, also provided broader industry insights. Overall customer satisfaction is rising, with non-Tesla electric vehicles achieving record satisfaction levels and surpassing perennial leader Tesla. However, in-vehicle infotainment systems lagged in satisfaction, with users preferring the simplicity of Android Auto or Apple CarPlay over traditional systems.
