For almost seven weeks, Chicago area dealership mechanics were on strike. Almost 2,000 mechanics at close to 140 new car dealerships throughout the Chicago area were involved in the strike. Many dealerships even had to shut down their service drive because of the strikes.
One of the sticking points of the negotiations was pay. Those mechanics will see their base pay increase two hours under the new contract and they will see wage increases. According to Becky Nixon, trainer and host of the Weekly Tune-Up, pay is important, but more needs to happen to avoid more strikes in the future.
