Toyota recalls more than half a million vehicles for infotainment failures and halts sales of nearly 95,000 EVs due to faulty defrosters, with free dealer repairs underway.
On Thursday, September 11, Toyota issued a voluntary recall involving over 590,000 vehicles in the United States.

On the Dash:

  • Toyota is recalling select Toyota and Lexus models due to a glitch in the infotainment system that can fail to start or go blank while driving.
  • Nearly 95,000 Toyota, Lexus, and Subaru electric vehicles, including the bZ4X, RZ, and Solterra, are recalled for faulty defrosters, prompting a temporary halt in sales.
  • Dealers will update affected vehicles free of charge, with Toyota notifying owners by mid-November for infotainment issues and October 20 for EV defroster fixes.

On Thursday, September 11, Toyota issued a voluntary recall involving over 590,000 vehicles in the United States.

The recall currently affects select Toyota Venza, Crown, Crown Signia, RAV4, GR, Corolla, 4Runner, Camry, Grand Highlander, Tacoma, and Highlander models. The recall also touches specific Lexus LS, RX, and TX vehicles.

According to the automaker’s announcement, the issue revolves around a glitch with the 12.3-inch display of the instrument panel, which may fail to turn on at startup or go blank while driving. Toyota intends to notify affected customers by mid-November.

During a separate notice last week, Toyota issued another recall impacting nearly 95,000 electric vehicles. This recall affects certain 2023 to 2025 Toyota bZ4X, Lexus RZ, and Subaru Solterra. The bZ4X accounts for the majority of those being recalled, with nearly 41,500, followed by the Solterra at 32,320, and the Lexus RZ with 20,502.

Toyota instructed dealers to halt sales of the affected vehicles produced up to mid-June, all of which are based on the same platform. According to the memo, the recall is due to faulty defrosters, which could impair visibility and pose a massive safety risk.

Dealers will update the HVAC control ECU software at no cost to owners. Further, Notification letters for the EV recall are scheduled to be mailed on Oct. 20, 2025.

Owners can contact Toyota’s customer service at 1-800-331-4331 or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration at 1-888-327-4236 for more information. The recall numbers are 25TB07 and 25TA07 for Toyota, 25LB04 and 25LA04 for Lexus, and WRD-25 for Subaru.

Stellantis to prioritize four core brands in turnaround strategy, sources say The automaker plans to shift funding toward Jeep, Ram, Peugeot, and Fiat while maintaining its broader portfolio. On the Dash: Expect increased product investment and marketing support for Jeep, Ram, Peugeot and Fiat. Regional and niche brands may see reduced volume but more targeted positioning and shared platforms. Platform-sharing and rebadging strategies could affect inventory mix and model differentiation. Stellantis will concentrate most of its investment on four core brands as CEO Antonio Filosa pushes a turnaround strategy set for release May 21, according to a Reuters exclusive. The automaker has identified Jeep, Ram, Peugeot, and Fiat as its priority brands. It will allocate a “material increase” in funding to them, driven by their stronger global sales and profitability, marking a shift away from the company’s previous approach of distributing investment more evenly across its portfolio. Stellantis will retain its 14-brand lineup, the largest in the industry, and will not shut down underperforming marques. Instead, the company will reposition secondary brands such as Citroën, Opel and Alfa Romeo to operate in regional or niche roles. These brands will rely on shared platforms and technology developed by the core brands while maintaining distinct styling and market identity. The strategy comes as Stellantis works to regain market share in the United States and Europe while facing growing competition from Chinese EV makers. The company earlier reported a 22.2 billion-euro charge tied to scaling back its EV plans, underscoring the urgency of the strategic shift. Its market valuation has also declined significantly in recent months. To support the transition, Stellantis will expand its use of shared “multi-energy” platforms that support electric, hybrid and internal combustion (ICE) vehicles. Additionally, the company is evaluating rebadging strategies and joint development programs, including collaborations with its Chinese partner, Leapmotor. Executives and investors backing the plan expect the increased focus on core brands to improve efficiency and strengthen financial performance. Analysts say Stellantis could still consider further consolidation if results fall short of expectations.
