General Motors (GM) has announced a recall of nearly 3,000 2025 Chevy Equinox EV AWD models due to an issue with the adaptive cruise control system.

The defect, caused by incorrect software calibration in the brake system control module (BSCM), prevents the vehicle from braking or slowing as intended when the feature is active.

The recall impacts only AWD models not equipped with GM’s Super Cruise. FWD and AWD models with Super Cruise are not affected.

The issue was identified in October 2024 after a test vehicle failed to stop as expected. GM launched an investigation in November and confirmed the defect. Dealers will update the BSCM software at no cost, and they will start sending owner notification letters on March 3, 2025.

For questions, customers can contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020 or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, or NHTSA, at 1-888-327-4236.

The recall follows another in December for over 7,600 Equinox EVs due to a quiet pedestrian alert system. Despite these setbacks, the Equinox EV remains a strong seller, with 29,000 units sold last year. The SUV’s 2025 lineup starts at $34,995, with ranges up to 319 miles.
