FCA sales fall 15% in 2024, plug-in hybrids dominate market

FCA Head of U.S. Sales, Jeff Kommor

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) U.S. recently released its fourth-quarter and full-year 2024 sales results.

During the fourth quarter, the automaker sold 320,743 vehicles, an overall 7% decline year-over-year. However, retail sales increased 1% year-over-year. Overall, the automaker’s Q4 results showed a notable 5% increase over Q3.

The automaker reported 1,303,570 vehicles for the full fiscal 2024 year, a staggering 15% decline year-over-year. However, sales began to pick up in the year’s second half, an increase of 4% over the first half, building a notable momentum heading into 2025.

One of the company’s most noteworthy achievements during the 2024 fiscal year is that it dominated the PHEV sector and held the highest market share of all automakers at an impressive 41%. The top PHEV models were the Jeep Wrangler, Grand Cherokee 4xe, and the Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid.

Chrysler

Chrysler’s fourth-quarter sales surged by a staggering 166% year-over-year. These phenomenal results were driven by the Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid, one of the top four-selling PHEVs in the United States.

Dodge

Dodge celebrated several wins in 2024. The classic Dodge Durango’s retail sales increased by 40% in the fourth quarter. The Hornet also performed well, up 120% year-over-year in Q4 since its launch. However, the standout was that the Dodge Charger Daytona was named 2025 Green Car Journal’s Performance Green Car of the Year.

Jeep

Jeep’s fourth-quarter retail sales increased by 6% year-over-year. The second half of the fiscal year’s success was driven by successful pricing strategies and improved value across the brand’s portfolio.

Ram

Ram’s fourth-quarter sales increased by 2% year-over-year, with the second half of the fiscal year rising by 19% over the first-half results. The Ram ProMaster van had it’s best Q4 results and retail sales incrased 84% year-over-year.,

Fiat

Fiat also had a successful year, with total calendar sales increasing by 153%. The brand’s fourth-quarter results also increased by a tremendous 317% year-over-year.

Alfa Romeo

Alfa Romeo’s Tonale, a plug-in hybrid SUV, did well in 2024, with sales increasing 61% year-over-year.

Despite a 15% decline in sales, FCA’s U.S. brands are showing promising momentum in the fourth quarter, which hopefully will continue into 2025. The company’s strategic adjustments in pricing, along with incentives and the introduction of new products to enhance its electric vehicle (EV) portfolio, will better position it for success in 2025.
