General Motors CEO Mary Barra declared that the automaker’s future EVs would use Tesla’s North American Charging Standards. GM plans to include the NACS connector design in its EVs starting in 2025.

By 2024, GM EV users will have access to the Tesla Supercharger Network. At first, you’ll need to utilize an adapter. According to Barra, by the spring of next year, GM will have the adapters ready for its EV owners.

The partnership will increase GM EV drivers’ access to charging at the 12,000 Tesla Superchargers in North America and counting. According to Barra, the agreement strengthens GM’s commitment to expanding charging access in homes, workplaces, and public spaces. It also adds to the more than 134,000 chargers available to GM EV drivers through the Ultium Charge 360 initiative and mobile apps.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk told Barra, “You have our full support, and we’re extremely eager to cooperate with you on this and make it an incredible charging experience whether someone is driving a car from GM or Tesla.” Adding, “Consumers will benefit greatly from this. You joining us is an honor for us.”

The construction of different charging networks is being sped up by GM and others in the sector, including through partnerships with Pilot Company and EVgo that will add more than 5,000 DC fast chargers to the roughly 13,000 already in place in North America.

In addition to this new partnership with Tesla, GM claims that these measures will give its consumers access to one of North America’s most extensive integrated networks of high-power charging stations.
