Subway ‘oasis’ creates a paradise for customers to eat, play, and charge their vehicles

The Subway sandwich chain recently revealed plans to develop EV-specific playgrounds for users. With the examination of a possible sale, the company said it plans to add charging stations only to some of its locations.

The EV parks, known as Subway Oasis, will feature “several charging points, picnic tables, Wi-Fi, restrooms, natural space, and even playgrounds,” the restaurant said on Feb. 21. Yet, the corporation did not specify the location or timing of the first Subway Oasis.

To open these parks, Subway is collaborating with EV tech innovators GenZ EV Solution and RED E Charging. The business also announced that Subway will deploy more compact fast-charging EV stations at restaurants that are brand-new or recently renovated around the US this year. According to the corporation, “on average, the smaller-format, quick EV chargers will deliver a 120-mile charge in 17 minutes for roughly $20.”

Once operational, EV users may also benefit from enjoying Subway discounts while they wait for their vehicles to charge, the business claimed.

Mike Kappitt, chief operational and insights officer of Subway, said in a statement: “We’re always looking for new ways to innovate and surpass our guests’ expectations for a high-quality, convenient experience.” He adds, “our collaboration with GenZ EV Solutions is a win for our customers, our franchisees, and our environment, establishing a dedicated space for drivers to charge their vehicles while enjoying their favorite Subway sandwich.”

On the other hand, Subway joins Taco Bell as one of the first fast food brands to declare plans to include open-air EV charging stations in dining establishments. For instance, six fast-charging EV stations were installed at a Taco Bell restaurant close to San Francisco in October. For just $20, the solar-powered stations offer a 100-mile charge in 20 minutes or less.
