Porsche has high hopes for its full-electric Macan model, which is set to enter into production starting by the end of next year. The company has stated they expect to manufacture as many units of the electric compact crossover as the combustion engine version.
In an interview with Automotive News Europe’s sister publication, Automobilewoche, Porsche production boss Albrecht Reimold said, “We produce more than 80,000 units per year of the current generation. In the long term, we also plan to produce the all-electric Macan on this scale.”
The Macan will be manufactured at Porsche’s Leipzig, Germany factory, the same location where the current ICE version is built. It will be the company’s second full-electric model, following the Taycan coupe.
The Macan was Porsche’s second best-selling model in the first half of 2022, with 38,039 deliveries. The Taycan only hit 18,877 customers after production struggled amid supply-chain problems.
Sources have said that both the Macan and its PPE platform sister model, the Audi Q6 e-tron, are facing possible delays. These delays stem from parent Volkswagen Group falling behind in developing advanced new software.
