With a bolder design inspired by the larger Telluride, significantly upgraded technology, more interior space, and a starting price under $24,000, the new Seltos delivers impressive value without feeling like an entry-level vehicle. Buyers can choose from front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive models, with a variety of trims designed to fit different budgets and lifestyles.
I tested the top-of-the-line SX AWD X-Line, which showcases just how much Kia has elevated this small SUV.
The biggest visual change is the styling. The 2027 Seltos adopts a more rugged, upscale appearance that gives it the look of a mini Telluride. It’s longer and wider than before, creating a stronger road presence while also increasing passenger and cargo space. New LED signature lighting, a hidden rear wiper, and available gloss black wheels help modernize the exterior. The X-Line package adds even more personality with black exterior accents, exclusive colors, increased 8.1 inches of ground clearance, additional drive modes, and a distinctive black interior. Depending on trim, buyers can choose from 16-, 17-, 18-, or 19-inch wheels, while nine exterior colors are offered, including six new choices.
Powertrain options remain straightforward. The standard engine is a 2.0-liter four-cylinder producing 147 horsepower and 132 lb-ft of torque, paired with a continuously variable transmission. My SX AWD tester featured the more powerful 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder that delivers 190 horsepower and 195 lb-ft of torque through a smooth eight-speed automatic transmission. The turbo engine provides noticeably stronger acceleration, especially during highway merging and passing, making it the engine to choose if performance matters.
Ride quality is comfortable, with suspension tuning that absorbs rough pavement well while maintaining composed handling through corners. The available torque-vectoring all-wheel-drive system with a locking center differential adds confidence in rain and snow while also improving traction on light trails. The Seltos can tow up to 2,000 pounds when properly equipped, adding another layer of versatility. Fuel economy for the turbo model comes in at an estimated 26 mpg combined, and Kia has confirmed that a hybrid model will join the lineup in the near future.
Safety continues to be one of the Seltos’ strongest selling points. Every model comes equipped with 13 standard driver assistance features, including Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist with pedestrian and cyclist detection, Lane Keeping Assist, Lane Following Assist, Blind-Spot Collision Warning, and Rear Cross-Traffic Collision Avoidance. Higher trims add features such as a Blind View Monitor that displays a live camera image in the instrument cluster when changing lanes, making highway driving even easier.
Inside, the Seltos feels more refined than many competitors in this price range. The redesigned cabin offers increased headroom and legroom for both front and rear passengers, making it comfortable for five adults. Material quality has improved with an attractive mix of soft-touch surfaces and durable trim pieces appropriate for the segment. Buyers can choose from cloth or synthetic leather seating, while upper trims offer heated and ventilated front seats, a 10-way power driver’s seat with lumbar support, and a large panoramic glass roof that brightens the cabin. Rear passengers benefit from reclining 60/40 split-folding seats that increase comfort on longer trips.
Technology receives one of the biggest upgrades. A panoramic display combines dual 10.25-inch screens into a nearly 30-inch digital dashboard that houses both the instrument cluster and infotainment system. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, along with wireless phone charging on upper trims. Available features include a Bose premium audio system, a 3D Around View Monitor, Smart Power Liftgate, remote start, Kia’s new AI assistant, and even streaming services that can be accessed while the vehicle is parked.
Cargo space is another area where the Seltos stands out. Behind the second row, there’s 27.8 cubic feet of storage, expanding to 64.2 cubic feet with the rear seats folded. A dual-level cargo floor increases flexibility, while practical touches like gear hooks and the available Smart Power Liftgate make loading groceries or travel gear much easier.
The 2027 Seltos lineup includes LX, S, EX, and SX trims, with X-Line packages available on select S and SX models. Pricing starts at $23,790 and tops out around $32,790. All-wheel drive adds approximately $1,500, while the X-Line package costs about $2,500 depending on trim.
Competition remains fierce, with rivals including the Hyundai Venue, Chevrolet Trax, Mazda CX-30, Volkswagen Taos, Buick Envista, Honda HR-V, and Toyota Corolla Cross. Yet the Seltos continues to distinguish itself by offering more technology, a stronger available turbocharged engine, generous passenger space, and one of the industry’s best warranties with 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain coverage.
The 2027 Kia Seltos demonstrates how far the subcompact SUV segment has evolved. It offers attractive styling, impressive technology, practical utility, and solid performance while maintaining an affordable price point. For buyers looking for a small SUV that doesn’t feel entry-level, the redesigned Seltos deserves a place at the top of the shopping list.
