Mitsubishi Motors adds off-road SUV to North American lineup

Following a previously announced BEV SUV, Mitsubishi confirms rugged Outlander variant for late 2026 launch.
Mitsubishi Motors will launch a rugged Outlander SUV in late 2026, following its previously announced battery-electric SUV.

On the Dash:

  • Mitsubishi will introduce a new off-road-focused Outlander SUV in late 2026 and a BEV SUV in summer 2026.
  • Both vehicles are part of the Momentum 2030 plan, targeting electrification, lineup expansion, and dealership growth.
  • All North American Mitsubishi vehicles continue to include a 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty and additional customer benefits.

Mitsubishi Motors North America will expand its U.S. lineup in 2026 with a second new SUV, an off-road-focused variant of the Outlander, complementing the battery-electric vehicle (BEV) announced earlier this year. The rugged model is designed with off-road bodywork, specialized drive modes, performance upgrades, and unique interior styling. It is slated to launch in late 2026, while the BEV SUV will arrive in summer 2026.

The announcement is part of Mitsubishi’s Momentum 2030 plan, which aims to electrify its lineup, modernize retail operations, expand dealership networks, and increase sales in North America. The strategy follows the brand’s recent rollout of the 2025 Outlander SUV and an upcoming Outlander Plug-in Hybrid, with plans for a mild-hybrid powertrain in the 2026 Outlander.

Mitsubishi’s off-road variant builds on features introduced in the Trail Edition package, enhancing the Super-All Wheel Control (S-AWC) all-wheel drive system developed from the company’s motorsports successes, including Dakar Rally and World Rally Championship competitions. This system is designed to offer consumers greater off-road capability while retaining family SUV practicality.

The company says that full details on naming, technical specifications, pricing, imagery, and availability will be shared in future announcements. All Mitsubishi vehicles in North America will continue to include a 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty, five-year unlimited Roadside Assistance, and two years of included maintenance.

The Momentum 2030 plan seeks to expand Mitsubishi’s network further while delivering an electrified, modernized product portfolio. The combined launch of the BEV SUV and the off-road Outlander variant represents the brand’s commitment to both electrification and off-highway performance, reinforcing its legacy and appealing to a wide range of consumers.
