The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is investigating an incident that damaged a Tesla Supercharger station in Lacey, Washington, early Tuesday morning. The station, located at 665 Sleater Kinney Road SE, was temporarily shut down following the event, which has been reported as an “explosion,” though this has not been independently verified.
Tesla is currently working with local utility company Puget Sound Energy to restore the 12 Superchargers at the location.
Lacey police were dispatched at 1:34 a.m. to investigate reports of a loud noise in the area. The police department described the event as “malicious mischief.” The FBI confirmed its involvement, stating it was working with partners to determine the details but did not clarify specifics.
Tesla’s electric vehicles, showrooms, and charging stations have increasingly become targets of vandalism amid rising protests linked to CEO Elon Musk’s political affiliations. These political stances have reportedly led to a decline in Tesla’s sales, with investors expressing concern over the brand’s damage.
The FBI, which has previously addressed the rising violence against Tesla, is taking steps to investigate these incidents further. FBI Director Kash Patel has labeled the violence as “domestic terrorism” and pledged to hold perpetrators accountable.
Nevertheless, Tesla confirmed that efforts are underway to bring the damaged Supercharger station back online.
