Cybertruck faces sixth recall this year due to faulty drive inverters

2,431 Cybertrucks are under recall due to drive inverter issues, marking the sixth and latest in a series of safety fixes this year.
Tesla's Cybertruck faces sixth recall in 2024

Tesla's CEO Elon Musk

Tesla has issued a recall on 2,431 Cybertrucks to address a faulty part that could cause a loss of power to the wheels.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has announced a recall for Cybertrucks produced between November 6, 2023, and July 30, 2024. This recall is due to a faulty drive inverter, which poses a serious risk as it could lead to a loss of vehicle propulsion if it fails. This malfunction could endanger both the driver and others on the road.

In an official written statement, Tesla notes, “If the inverter stops producing torque, the driver loses the ability to apply torque to the vehicle using the accelerator pedal, resulting in a loss of propulsion, which may increase the risk of a collision.” The automaker will replace faulty drive inverters for customers at their service centers free of charge.

This marks the sixth recall for the Cybertruck in the last ten months. Despite the history of recalls, Tesla’s Cybertruck has managed to become the third-best-selling fully electric vehicle in the U.S., only behind Tesla’s Model Y and Model 3. However, if the recall trend continues, it could impact its sales.

In addition, the frequent safety recalls don’t bode well for Tesla’s reputation. The automaker is already under scrutiny by the NHTSA, which has four active investigations into its vehicle safety and full self-driving (FSD) software.
