Lucid Air may join CHP’s lineup, showcasing the future of high-performance EVs in law enforcement.
CHP tests Lucid Air sedan

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) recently tested a modified version of the electric Lucid Air as a potential addition to their police fleet.

Lucid proudly took to social media to share pictures of the modified Air sedan fully decked out in black-and-white livery, police lights, a PA system, crash bar, and steel wheels on its official X (formerly known as Twitter) page.

The Lucid Air won’t be the first electric vehicle (EV) to join the ranks of California’s fleet, but the CHP’s initiative in adopting electric Ford F-150 Lightning, Mustang Mach-E, and potentially the Lucid Air sets a pioneering example for law enforcement agencies nationwide.

While the automaker has not provided official details on the car’s specifications, the potential use of the Air Sapphire’s three-motor setup could make the Lucid Air the quickest and most impressive EV police cruiser on the market.

Air Sapphire’s electric drivetrain rates at an output of 1,234 hp and 1,430 lb-ft of torque. The 2024 Lucid Air Sapphire can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 1.9 seconds, 0 to 100 in 3.8 seconds, and has a top speed of 205 mph. It also has more range than any other EV available in the United States.

Neither Lucid nor the CHP have confirmed which Air sedan trim will be used, and the automaker has not officially announced any concrete production plans.
