Toyota reports record global sales and production

Toyota's sales increased by less than 1% in China as more consumers opted for EVs.
Toyota production

Due to the strong demand and improving supply conditions, Toyota’s global sales increased by 8.3% from April to September compared to the same period last year, reaching a record 5.6 million vehicles. This puts the largest automaker in the world on track for further robust gains in the coming year.

The automaker said in a statement that its global production, which includes subsidiaries from Japanese manufacturers Daihatsu and Hino, increased by 10% to a record 5.7 million units in the first half of the fiscal year.

Global sales:

  • Car sales under the Toyota and Lexus brands increased by 22% in Africa, the most of any region.
  • The Middle East saw a similar increase, at 17%.
  • North America saw a 9.4% increase.
  • Europe saw a 7% increase.
  • Toyota’s sales increased by less than 1% in China as more consumers opted for EVs.
  • Sales for the carmaker increased by 34% in Japan as semiconductor supply constraints subsided.

However, outside of Japan, sales were rather weak in several regions of Asia, partly because of slowing economies in Thailand and Indonesia.
