Polestar delivers 12,000 vehicles in Q1, still on track to reach annual production goals

The debut of the Polestar 3, the EV manufacturer's first electric SUV, promises to be an exciting year ahead for the car maker.
Polestar deliveries

After delivering approximately 12,000 vehicles in the first quarter, Polestar, a Swedish EV manufacturer famed for its Scandinavian simple style, said it is still on track to reach 80,000 deliveries this year.

The debut of the Polestar 3, the EV manufacturer’s first electric SUV, promises to be an exciting year ahead for the car maker.

After exceeding its 50,000 annual global volume target and delivering a record 51,491 vehicles in 2022, an increase of 80% from the year before, Polestar hopes to keep up the pace for 2023.

With 12,000 car deliveries in Q1, Polestar reported Thursday that it had improved upon the advancements made the previous year. This is a decrease from the 21,000 cars supplied in Q4. But a 26% increase from Q1 of 2022.

Polestar CEO Thomas Inglenlath anticipates a significant year as the company grows its brand internationally, saying:

“Polestar will make significant strides in 2023 as we broaden our range and keep expanding our retail network. Along with the substantial improvements we have made to Polestar 2, we anticipate starting production of our much awaited electric SUV Polestar 3 in the summer and will soon unveil Polestar 4.”

Meanwhile, the luxury fastback has developed into a top-selling EV model in various critical regions. Including the UK, Canada, Sweden, Norway, South Korea, and others, since the launch of the Polestar 2, its first fully electric vehicle, in mid-2020.

The Polestar 3 has a starting price of about $85,000 and is built on the same chassis as the Volvo EX90 SUV. It has a range of up to 300 miles and a 30-minute quick charge.

The Swedish EV manufacturer estimates the electric SUV will serve a larger market than the Polestar 2. Therefore, it expects to start an ambitious $20 million marketing campaign in the second quarter.
