Starting with the ZDX, Honda claims all Acura EVs sales will be 100% online

Honda is targeting aggressive sales of its first EVs.

Honda is reorganizing its operations as it prepares to sell only electric vehicles by 2040. As a result, the business declared that starting with the ZDX SUV, which will be released next year, all of its EVs bearing the Acura brand will only be sold online.

In order to handle sales, marketing, and communications for its developing EV business, the corporation is restructuring its leadership team and establishing a new division. As it transitions to EVs, which include better software services and, most significantly, e-commerce, it is presenting its luxury and performance brand Acura as the “point of the spear.”

Pre-sales for the RDX and RDX Type S will start later this year, and customer deliveries are scheduled to begin in 2024. According to Honda senior VP Mamadou Diallo, who was recently promoted to be in charge of all sales for Honda, the Acura ZDX will be the first car sold solely online. The Acura ZDX is a luxury SUV that shares a lot of the same styling and themes as the Precision concept car from last year. Diallo adds, “what we see is enabling clients and consumers the convenience of dealing where they desire to transact,” adding that the process will continue to involve Honda’s network of dealers.

On the other hand, the auto industry has been slow in adapting online sales, with conventional dealers continuing to be the most frequent entrance point for buyers. As of now, Honda’s EV strategy has been defined by its partnership with other manufacturers. Thanks to a cooperation with the Detroit-based carmaker, both of the automaker’s first EVs, the Acura ZDX and Honda Prologue, will be constructed on GM’s Ultium electric architecture. Honda is assisting Sony with the establishment of its first auto brand, Afeela, the first model of which is anticipated to hit North American dealerships in 2026.

By 2050, the company claims to have 30 hybrid battery-electric fuel cell vehicles on the road.
