  • Lucid delivered its first Gravity Robotaxi EV to Nuro, launching its Uber partnership to deploy 20,000 autonomous SUVs by 2032.
  • Uber is investing $300 million into Lucid, with robotaxis set to integrate into Uber’s app starting in 2026.
  • Despite supply chain setbacks and rivals pulling back on EVs, Lucid remains committed to a pure EV strategy and strong Gravity demand.

Lucid Motors has delivered the first Gravity Robotaxi electric SUV to autonomous vehicle developer Nuro, officially launching its partnership with Uber to deploy a large-scale robotaxi fleet. The milestone delivery took place on Wednesday, marking the beginning of a six-year plan to roll out 20,000 Gravity EVs equipped with self-driving technology.

The electric SUVs will be integrated into Uber’s network, operating as autonomous ride-hailing vehicles accessible through the Uber app. To support the rollout, Uber is investing $300 million into Lucid, underscoring the ride-hailing giant’s commitment to accelerating its robotaxi business.

Nuro will equip the Gravity with Level 4 autonomous driving systems, including advanced sensors and hardware, allowing the vehicles to operate without human intervention in specific conditions. Uber has targeted 2026 to begin scaling the fleet, with thousands of robotaxis expected to hit the streets in the following years.

The milestone comes as Lucid works to ramp up Gravity production at its Casa Grande, Arizona, plant. Earlier this year, the automaker faced supply chain disruptions that limited output, but the company said it has largely resolved those issues.

Lucid’s leadership emphasized that customer demand for the Gravity remains strong, with a significant order backlog. To reassure buyers affected by production delays, the automaker confirmed it will continue to honor the federal $7,500 EV tax credit for deliveries through the end of the year. Executives also noted that the loss of the tax credit next year is not expected to significantly affect sales, given Lucid’s luxury market positioning. The Gravity robotaxi rollout positions Lucid to play a central role in Uber’s long-term strategy to expand autonomous ride-hailing, while also solidifying its place in the luxury EV market despite broader industry headwinds.
