IONNA, the EV charging network backed by the world’s leading automakers– BMW, General Motors, Honda, Hyundai, Kia, Mercedes-Benz, Stellantis, and Toyota – just opened its first charging station, called a “Rechargery,” in Apex, North Carolina.
Last week, IONNA officially moved from its beta phase to full-scale national release. The Apex location marks the beginning of a nationwide rollout to improve America’s electric vehicle charging infrastructure and provide EV customers with convenient charging options. This expansive charging network will address consumers’ biggest hurdles to EV adoption, including charger availability, reliability, and ease of use.
The Rechargery is designed to deliver an elevated customer experience compared to traditional charging locations. It features 10 covered charging bays, is equipped with NACS and CCS-compatible chargers, and offers up to 400 kW fast charging. Additionally, the Rechargery offers several amenities such as snacks, restrooms, complimentary Wi-Fi, and a pet-friendly environment. These enhancements are part of IONNA’s broader initiative to make EV charging seamless and comfortable for drivers on the road and to rival current gas stations and rest stops.
The Apex location is the first step in a planned coast-to-coast network that will expand into Canada in the coming years. Currently, 100 locations are confirmed, with a target of 1,000 operational locations by the end of the year.
To further enhance the customer experience, IONNA will introduce AI-powered grab-and-go refreshment stations, allowing customers to select their snacks and walk out, avoiding long checkout lines to elevate the consumer experience.
IONNA CEO Seth Cutler emphasizes that the mission of IONNA is more than just installing chargers–it’s about creating a driver-first experience. By combining fast, reliable charging with modern amenities and cutting-edge technology, IONNA is positioning itself as a leader in next-gen EV infrastructure.
