2026 Hyundai Palisade Hybrid: Big SUV, Big MPG

Hyundai didn’t just refresh the Palisade for 2026; it rethought what a modern three-row family SUV should deliver. The new Palisade Hybrid arrives with a bolder design, a noticeably more premium interior, expanded technology, and a hybrid powertrain that finally answers one of the biggest criticisms of large SUVs: fuel efficiency without sacrificing capability.

From the outside, the 2026 Palisade looks more confident and upscale than ever. It is larger in every key dimension, stretching 2.5 inches longer overall with a wheelbase that grows by 2.7 inches. Those changes translate directly into more interior space, particularly in the second and third rows, where adults will appreciate the extra headroom and legroom. Hyundai leaned into a muscular, modern look with distinctive stacked LED headlights and taillights, a bold grille finished in either chrome or gloss black depending on trim, and sleeker aerodynamics that help improve fuel economy. Active air flaps and airflow shutters are subtle but functional touches, while larger rear glass improves visibility and gives the SUV a more open feel from inside.

Wheel sizes scale with trim, with 20-inch wheels on the Limited and 21-inch wheels on the Calligraphy, reinforcing the Palisade’s move further into near-luxury territory. Nine exterior colors and four interior color options allow buyers to personalize the look, while details like black side sills, silver roof rails, heated power side mirrors, hands-free power liftgate, and a hidden rear wiper tucked under the roof wing all contribute to a clean, upscale appearance. The Palisade also comes standard with a tow hitch, something many competitors still treat as optional.

The biggest news for 2026 is under the hood. Hyundai introduces a new 2.5-liter turbocharged hybrid powertrain producing a combined 329 horsepower and 339 pound-feet of torque, paired with a six-speed automatic transmission. This setup delivers an impressive driving range of more than 600 miles on regular unleaded fuel. Front-wheel-drive models are rated at an estimated 34 mpg combined, while all-wheel-drive versions come in at 29 mpg combined, numbers that significantly undercut most three-row rivals of this size.

For buyers who still want maximum towing, the gasoline version of the Palisade remains available with up to 5,000 pounds of towing capacity. The hybrid isn’t far behind, offering 4,000 pounds of maximum towing as standard, complete with hitch, wiring, and a dedicated tow mode. Both powertrains are offered in either front-wheel drive or Hyundai’s H-Trac all-wheel-drive system, giving buyers flexibility based on climate and driving needs.

On the road, the Palisade Hybrid feels composed and refined. Hyundai improved ride quality and added larger brakes, which inspire confidence in everyday driving and during highway stops. The E-Ride tuning paired with H-Trac reduces body roll and improves handling, making the Palisade feel smaller than its size suggests. This is still a family SUV, not a performance vehicle, but it now feels more controlled and polished than many competitors in the segment.

Inside, Hyundai continues to set the standard for value and usability. The cabin feels genuinely premium, especially in upper trims with available Nappa leather and ambient lighting. The new panoramic curved digital display houses dual 12.3-inch screens for the instrument cluster and navigation system, delivering crisp graphics and intuitive controls. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, as is a wireless charging pad with an integrated cooling fan to prevent phones from overheating.

Seating comfort is a standout. Front seats offer power relaxation functions, while available first- and second-row relaxation seating adds long-distance comfort typically reserved for luxury brands. Second-row seats can be heated and ventilated and even feature illuminated seatbelts, while the third row now offers available heating, a rare feature in this class. Cup holders are plentiful, and 100-watt USB-C ports throughout the cabin easily handle laptops and devices for families on the go.

Technology goes well beyond infotainment. Hyundai includes integrated high-definition dual-camera dash cams that can record while driving or parked, a feature increasingly valued by owners. Passenger Talk allows the driver to communicate clearly with rear passengers, while Hyundai Digital Key, Hyundai Pay, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and Alexa Built-In bring everyday convenience into the vehicle. Hybrid Stay Mode allows the vehicle to maintain cabin climate and electronics without running the engine, a useful feature for waiting in the car or short stops.

Safety remains a Palisade stronghold. The SUV carries a five-star crash test rating and includes Hyundai SmartSense safety technology as standard. Features like Highway Drive Assist, blind-spot view cameras displayed in the gauge cluster, Smart Park, and new third-row seatbelt pre-tensioners and load limiters enhance protection for every occupant. The Palisade’s blind-spot cameras continue to be one of Hyundai’s most effective and user-friendly safety innovations.

Cargo space benefits from the Palisade’s growth. With all seats up, it offers 19 cubic feet of cargo space. Folding the third row expands that to 46 cubic feet, and folding the second row increases capacity to 87 cubic feet. Power-adjustable cargo controls make reconfiguring the interior quick and easy.

Trims include SEL, SEL Premium, Limited, and Calligraphy, with pricing ranging from $44,160 to $56,780. All-wheel drive adds $2,000, while upgrading to the hybrid powertrain costs $2,200, a relatively modest premium given the fuel savings. Hyundai’s industry-leading 10-year, 100,000-mile powertrain warranty adds long-term peace of mind.

The 2026 Hyundai Palisade Hybrid competes in a crowded field that includes the Kia Telluride, Ford Explorer, Volkswagen Atlas, Honda Pilot, Toyota Grand Highlander, Chevrolet Traverse, GMC Acadia, Subaru Ascent, Nissan Pathfinder, and Mazda CX-90. What sets the Palisade apart is how well it balances space, technology, safety, efficiency, and value. For families who want a large SUV that feels upscale, drives confidently, and finally delivers real fuel economy, the Palisade Hybrid may be the most complete package in the segment.
