General Motors appoints Norm de Greve as new CMO and senior VP

His resume also includes working at digital marketing firm Digitas in various positions from 2001-2014, including serving as president of the Boston and Detroit offices.
Norm de Greve

On July 18, Norm de Greve was appointed senior vice president and chief marketing officer at General Motors.

De Greve joins GM after serving as chief marketing officer of CVS Health since 2015. He’ll take over after Deborah Wahl, GM’s last marketing chief, announced her retirement in March 2023.

De Greve will assume the role on July 31 under the direction of GM President Mark Reuss. According to Reuss, Norm is an accomplished marketing executive with a track record of creating brands and fostering business expansion in a digital environment. “As we continue our technology-driven transformation, his broad background, including time spent at Digitas working with GM, is the perfect fit.”

Additionally, GM noted that while at CVS Health, de Greve helped the company reach sixth place on the Fortune 500 list. His resume also includes working at digital marketing firm Digitas in various positions from 2001-2014, including serving as president of the Boston and Detroit offices.

De Greve joined the pharmacy chain soon after it declared it would stop selling tobacco-related goods in 2014. It was the first retailer to alter its product lineup in this way. Afterward, de Greve oversaw the chain’s marketing efforts concerning the position, including its 2019 statement that it will no longer cooperate with advertising firms who list a tobacco brand among their clients. De Greve was also the driving force behind several initiatives, such as the retailer’s Beauty Mark campaign to limit manipulated imagery in marketing. More recently, CVS launched a “Role Model” campaign to combat image insecurities among young adults brought on by social media influencers.
