Tesla comes out on top in the 2022 Cars.com American-Made Index

Cars.com recently released its American-Made Index, which ranks all qualified automobiles made and purchased in the United States. 95 cars were ranked using the same five criteria in years past—assembly location, parts content, engine and transmission origins, and U.S. manufacturing workforce.

Tesla tops the 2022 index, maintaining its overall number 1 position thanks to the Model Y. In fact, all four vehicles in Tesla’s current lineup ranked in the top 10. The Model 3 declined to the number 2 spot, followed by the Model X at number 5 and the Model S at number. 6. The Lincoln Corsair and Honda Passport SUV ranked third and fourth, respectively. Rounding out the top 10 is the Jeep Cherokee and three more Hondas, the Ridgeline, Odyssey, and Pilot.

Due to their resurgence and the recent establishment of a new Model Y assembly facility in Austin, Texas, which strengthens the company’s labor credentials, Tesla’s presence is now more noticeable than ever.

But it’s hardly a complete takeover. With the Corsair compact SUV, Ford’s premium brand Lincoln enters the top 10 for the first time in the Index’s history, thanks to a sharp rise in the proportion of U.S. and Canadian parts over the previous year of almost 50%. Similarly, the Honda Passport has the highest U.S. and Canadian parts content of any eligible car for 2022, at 75%.
