Georgia-based Jim Ellis Automotive Group has acquired Mercedes-Benz of Atlanta South. The store was purchased on March 24 from Swickard Auto Group. Though terms were not disclosed, Jim Ellis plans to keep the dealership’s name.

“It’s a rare and incredible opportunity to not only have acquired this Mercedes-Benz dealership, but to also have done so in our own hometown of Atlanta where we’ve owned and operated German dealership brands beginning with Volkswagen 50 years ago,” Jimmy Ellis, CEO of Jim Ellis Automotive Group, said in a statement.

The purchase of the Mercedes store marks the 20th dealership for Jim Ellis and the 16th brand for the group. All Jim Ellis locations are based in Georgia.

The transaction signifies continued growth for the private dealership group. Late last year, the retail group bought Nalley Ford Sandy Springs from Asbury Automotive Group Inc.

Mercedes-Benz of Atlanta South was Swickard’s only dealership on the East Coast. The group currently operates 17 dealerships across Alaska, California, Oregon, and Washington.

Haig Partners, a Fort Lauderdale, FL-based buy-sell firm, represented Swickard in the transaction.
