Hyundai Motor America is reinforcing its commitment to child passenger and pedestrian safety with a $100,000 donation to Children’s Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA). The funding will support CHLA’s Injury Prevention and Child Passenger Safety Program, allowing the hospital to expand safety education and equipment distribution for families across Los Angeles and Orange Counties.

Since the partnership began, Hyundai and CHLA have conducted over 10 child safety seat inspections and pedestrian safety events, benefiting nearly 850 children and replacing more than 125 car seats. These efforts have had a measurable impact—studies show that caregivers who participate in safety training are significantly more likely to use car seats correctly than those who have not, reinforcing the importance of continued education.

“Hyundai is proud to continue growing our partnership with CHLA and strengthening our shared commitment to improving child passenger and pedestrian safety,” said Brian Latouf, global chief safety and quality officer of Hyundai Motor Group. “Education is crucial in equipping families with the knowledge and resources needed to transport their loved ones safely.”

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), nearly half of all car seats and booster seats are either improperly installed or misused. Properly used safety seats, however, can reduce the risk of fatal injury by 71% for infants and 54% for toddlers. To address this, Hyundai and CHLA will continue hosting child safety seat inspection events throughout 2025. Certified child passenger safety technicians will offer free inspections, check for recalls and expiration dates, and ensure proper seat fitment. Families in need may also receive replacement seats.

In addition to car seat safety, Hyundai and CHLA are expanding pedestrian safety education through LA Street Smarts events. These interactive experiences feature a life-size, mobile street setup with traffic signals and safety demonstrations to teach children about street hazards. The program was recently showcased at the Lifesavers Conference on Roadway Safety in Long Beach, California, where traffic safety leaders gathered to discuss injury prevention strategies.

The collaboration is part of Hyundai’s Hyundai Hope initiative, which focuses on corporate social responsibility efforts to improve community health and safety. Hyundai Motor America continues to invest in programs that make a lasting impact, aligning with its broader mission of Progress for Humanity.
