In what could give an unintentional boost to ride-sharing and car-sharing services, younger and less-affluent motorists are having a difficult time finding older and more affordable used vehicles on dealers’ lots.

While supplies of late-model pre-driven vehicles are healthy, especially given the skyrocketing popularity of leasing that brings used models back to dealerships like clockwork, inventories of 8-10-year-old rides is getting precariously thin, according to the analysts at the car-shopping website Edmunds.com.
